Weekly Progression

Week 1

This week there was nothing because there it was Malaysia Independence Day.

Week 2

This was our first week where Mr. Charles briefed us on what to expect in this subject. This week we also formed our respective groups to work on our group assignment.

Week 3

In this week, we introduced our story idea to Mr. Charles for feedback so that we could start working on a story-based game. We got some good feedback and started working more on the dialogue of the game.

Week 4

This week we did our personal gaming history

Week 5

We decided to use RPGMaker a game making software that is dedicated to making RPGs. We decided to use this software because of the ease of use and assets that were already included that could help speed the development of the game.

Week 6

It was decided that I would be in charge of putting in all the functionality of our game and so this week I was familiarizing myself with the software while waiting for the others to complete the dialogue and story of the game. We were also discussing what kind of game mechanics we should add to the game.

Week 7

Progression slowed down a bit this week as they were other modules that we had to focus on. I also personally had a test to focus on this week, but I did manage to find a good asset that we could use for our game.

Week 8 -10

During these weeks I started to work with Sim Chze Huang to try and get the game to a prototyping state. I first created a shared folder on Google Drive to collaborate efficiently with Sim Chze Huang.

It was decided between the two of us that I would code the logic of the game and Sim would design all the maps for the game. There was quite a bit of progression during these few weeks.

Week 10-12

After receiving some important consultation from our lecturer. It was time to start polishing the game up. I left it to Sim to work on the BGM, images used for the clues in the game and the faces used in the dialogue. I was fixing up some bugs that were interrupting the flow of gameplay. We managed to finish the game during this period.

These were faces used during dialogue

Reflection

I learnt a lot about developing games during this module and how there is a lot of elements in a game to consider when going through the process of making one. Elements such as map design, music, and in general the flow of the game. It was a really enjoyable experience for me, and I am grateful for having such wonderful groupmates.
